Evaluation of mutagenicity by exposure to intermediate frequency (2, 10, 20 kHz) magnetic fields

چکیده
In this study, we examine mutagenicity of 2, 10 and 20 kHz, 0.8mT intermediate frequency magnetic fields (IF-MFs) by mouse lymphoma assay (MLA) using L5178Y tk3.7.2c cells. The result shows that no significant increase or decrease in mutation frequency by exposure to any IF-MFs. In addition, no significant difference was observed in colony formation such as shape or frequency of large and small colonies between unexposed control and exposed cells. These results suggest that IF-MFs do not have mutagenic potential in the present experimental condition.

Lack of Teratological Effects in Rats Exposed to 20 or 60 kHz Magnetic Fields
BACKGROUND A risk assessment of magnetic field (MF) exposure conducted by the World Health Organization indicated the need for biological studies on primary hazard identification and quantitative risk evaluation of intermediate frequency (300 Hz-100 kHz) MFs. Because induction heating cookers generate such MFs for cooking, reproductive and developmental effects are a concern due to the close pr...
متن کاملEffect of an Intermediate-Frequency Magnetic Field of 23 kHz at 2 mT on Chemotaxis and Phagocytosis in Neutrophil-Like Differentiated Human HL-60 Cells
Public concerns about potential health risks of intermediate-frequency (IF) electromagnetic fields are increasing, especially as the use of induction-heating cooktops has spread extensively in Japan and Europe. In order to investigate the properties of IF electromagnetic fields, we examined the effect of exposure to a 23-kHz IF magnetic field of 2 mT for 2, 3, or 4 h on neutrophil chemotaxis an...

The technology used in energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), provides a quarter of the energy consumption of incandescent lamps to produce equivalent light energy while CLFs shelf life is up to ten times of incandescent lamps. So the incandescent lamps in homes and workplaces are replaced with CFLs. Due to the use of ballast in the structure of CFLs, electric and magnetic fields are g...
متن کاملEvaluation of Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) Electromagnetic Fields and Their Probable Relationship with Hematological Changes among Operators in Heavy Metal Industry
Introduction: It is important that biological and health effects from the induction of currents and fields in the body by extremely low frequency (ELF) fields are fully explored to determine the effects produced at the molecular, cellular and organ levels. The objective of this study was to evaluate the intensity of ELF electromagnetic fields and its probable relationship with hematological cha...

Despite increasing use of intermediate frequency (IF) magnetic fields (MFs) in occupational and domestic settings, scientific evidence necessary for health risk assessments of IF MF is insufficient. Male and female Crl:CD(SD) rats (12 per sex per group) were exposed to 20 kHz, 0.20 mT(root mean square, rms) or 60 kHz, 0.10 mT(rms) sinusoidal MFs for 22 h day(-1) for 14 days (acute) or 13 weeks ...
